Intensive care medicine, or critical care medicine, is a medical speciality concerned with the diagnosis and management of critically ill patients who have, are at risk of having, or are recovering from conditions that could result in life-threatening organ failure. It includes the provision of sophisticated life support and invasive monitoring techniques, resuscitation, and end-of-life care.

A physician specialised in this branch of medicine may be referred to variously as an intensive care physician, critical care physician or intensivist.
